The Strategist’s Guide to the Barneys Liquidation Sale
By now you’ve probably heard that Barney’s is shuttering its stores — and while we’re sad to see that the New York institution is closing, in true Strategist spirit, we’re preparing to open our wallets and scoop up any liquidation sale deals. As WWD reports, the sale has begun, though the current discounts, at five and ten percent off, are quite small. But not insignificant: five to ten percent off means that you could buy a pair of house-brand cashmere gloves for $89 rather than $99, and use that extra ten bucks to (almost) cover your Sweetgreen salad. Or, if you’ve been eyeing something pricier — like a timeless brown wool Jil Sander pea coat — you may be able save a slightly more substantial chunk.
And though the savings may be small now, the New York Times reports that the company hopes to move most of the merchandise “by the end of December but is prepared to run sales into February if necessary” — which we hope means deeper discounts. We’ll be watching over the next few weeks, and rounding up the best deals, so you can shop this deeply unwieldy sale intelligently. For our first installment, we’ve collected some items that are pretty much never discounted, and are likely to sell out fast, including Gucci loafers, that neon Comme des Garçons wallet, and some Christofle flatware. Plus, some Barney’s branded stuff — since that is likely to sell out quickly.(Note that returns will not accepted after November 15.)
